Janice L. Miller
Janice L. Miller has been in practice since 2003, focusing exclusively in estate planning, trust administration, probate, and conservatorship matters.
Janice has training in dispute resolution and mediation which combined with her fifteen-year legal career gives her insight, patience, tact, and even humor in dealing with difficult personalities or challenging family dynamics. Her life experience combined with professional experience gives her sincere understanding, empathy, and humor in counseling clients whether preparing estate planning documents for the living or handling trust administration or probate for the family of a departed loved one.
Janice serves as a court appointed attorney for the San Diego Superior Court handling conservatorship and dementia matters.
Having spent six years reviewing Conservatorships for the San Diego Probate Court as a Court Investigator, Janice is particularly interested in assisting the elderly and developmentally disabled community. Janice’s unique training is especially valuable for elderly clients who seek to plan properly in advance in order to avoid conservatorship and protect against financial abuse.
For parents of a developmentally disabled youth who becomes an adult, often conservatorship is necessary for the family to be able to continue communications with doctors, psychologists, and the Regional Center. Janice provides counseling regarding special needs trusts and other planning tools to protect public benefits for the special needs individual.
Janice has volunteered at the Probate Conservatorship Clinic for the Legal Aid Society of San Diego from 2013 – 2016. Janice was awarded the Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for Pro Bono Services in 2014 and 2015
Janice has also served as an Arbitrator for Better Business Bureau Auto Line arbitrating “Lemon Law” related disputes, deciding cases, and writing formal decisions from 2005 – 2009.
